Infection is difficult for children with a strong immune system!

Yeditepe University Hospital Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Specialist Asst. Assoc. Dr. E.Mahir Gulcan, the risk of infection in children with a strong immune system and the risk of infection is very low, says the probability of severe infection.

Infection is also transmitted quickly due to the crowds in the nests and schools, which are places where people live. Yeditepe University Hospital, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Specialist Asst. Assoc. Dr. E.Mahir Gülcan says, “Even a child who buys germs from their elders quickly spreads these germs by sneezing and coughing to other friends who are constantly together at school and in kindergarten.”

Hand wash is protective

Dr. Gülcan points out the importance of the immune system so that children in schools and kindergartens are not sick: “This is not due to a defect in the immune system. However, in children with a strong immune system, who strengthen the immune system in various ways, the risk of these infections is very low and the likelihood of severe infection is very low. ”

In order to prevent infection, Gülcan says:

“Although the most accurate way is not to be in infected environments, this is practically not applicable in daily life. The most important known protection is washing hands. This method is the most important preservative, both simple and proven. In case of contact with an infected person, it is very important that everyone wash their hands. Another method is to get the flu vaccine. Asthma, diabetes, chronic lung disease, chronic renal failure, heart disease and the elderly in September every year to take the flu vaccine is required. However, the vaccination of influenza vaccines every year in September-October by children who go to mass living environments such as nursery, kindergarten and school and adults in these environments is one of the weapons we have to protect against upper airway diseases.

Vitamin C is protective

Vitamin C also protects against viruses and bacteria by strengthening the immune system, Asst. Assoc. Dr. Mahir Gülcan explains the benefits of vitamin C as follows:

“Vitamin C is one of the most powerful anti-oxidants in the body. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system by protecting the cells of the immune system from damage and provides protection from infections. The child's body requires vitamin C both to form certain chemicals and to introduce other substances. Vitamin C also plays a key role in helping the child's body absorb iron. Children who do not get enough vitamin C from their diet may develop weakness, anemia and other medical conditions in their bones. Vitamin C strengthens our immune system and protects against viruses and bacteria. Various foods and various harmful substances and toxins that we are exposed to, and various microbes cause the production of oxidizing substances that age and damage cells in our bodies. Since vitamin C cannot be produced by our body, people have to take it completely from outside. It is abundant in citrus fruits, as well as in fresh vegetables, parsley, zucchini, onions and tomatoes. Apart from these, it is very unnecessary to use vitamins prepared as medicines in order to prevent disease for a healthy child. Moreover, vitamins are not innocent substances and some of them are stored in the body. Their excess also leads to very dangerous consequences. However, plenty of fruit and vegetable consumption in autumn and winter will be sufficient. At least 1 cup of freshly squeezed juice is enough.
